Wrestling/Boxing Banned
Some think that wrestling and boxing should be banned because of bodily injuries. It’s our choice if we want to be a wrestler or boxer, right? No one if forcing you to become a wrestler or a boxer, it’s your choice if you want to do it or not. “Over 360 boxers died since 1945. Brain damage and other severe injuries are uncountable” says the staff of SelectSmart.com.To begin with, the majority of wrestlers love their sport. Majority of boxer’s love their sport too. So, why ban something that people love? I personally am a wrestler and a boxer so I know how it would feel if my sports that I live for would get banned. Both of those sports made me who I am today. If I did not have that I really cannot think of where I would be or what I would be doing in my life right now.
More than 30million kids and teens participate in athletics each year. Out of that 30million about 3.5 million injuries occur each year. In football nearly 194,000 kids and teens from age 5-18 were treated for injury. In basketball over 200,000 kids from ages 14-18 were treated with severe injury. Now, why are they picking out wrestling and boxing? If they ban wrestling and boxing then why not ban football or basketball, even hockey? These are all physical contact sports. It’s like being racist. Saying because you are African American, or Mexican you can’t do this or that. It’s people’s choice to become a boxer or wrestler. We should not stop them if they really love it. They know what can happen if they really got hurt, if we did ban wrestling and boxing then that would be an invitation for all the wrestlers and boxers to just stay in bed, not even just them other people too because we’d have to ban every other sport. People are just being cry babies about it. If people don’t want to do a sport or those sports, we aren’t going to force them. Isn’t also a good thing that people are getting this extreme workout to keep in shape? It is one of America’s goals to stop or reduce the amount of people with obesity.
Boxing and wrestling are ancient sports that originated in Greece. So why take history and ban it? Sure many people may disagree with what I am saying, but I have actually experienced the feeling of stepping in the octagon and the boxing ring. The adrenalin of the fight is huge; you practically take in and use each other’s adrenalin, body heat, and sweat. When you take a punch your sweat from your body bounces off, and either hits your opponent or falls on the mat. When it’s the stare off and you are both in neutral it’s one of the most intense moments of the match. Who is going to throw the first punch? Who is going to kick first? Those are all the things that are going through my mind when I step in the ring or octagon.
It’s kind of the same thing with wrestling, but there is a bigger crowd; people standing around cheering for one of the two wrestlers. Stepping into the center circle, putting on the ankle bracelet, you take an oath to your coach, team, friends and family; even your school, that you are going to try your hardest to pin the guy and win points for your team. Winning is one thing and so is losing, but not really trying is another huge thing. We can all see if we are even trying or not. It’s nothing that we can hide.
I just don’t understand why people would want to take this dream away from kids and teens that want to become big; that want to be accepted by a college and wrestle for them or boxing every fight you win you get money. It’s just whatever side people look at really. Everyone has their own opinion and I just expressed mine. I used mine as my own experience and how ridiculous banning wrestling and boxing is.
